Miami storms back, can break unfortunate streak by winning Sunday against No. 4 UF

After dominating the No. 4 Florida Gators 10-6 on Saturday at Mark Light Field, the Miami Hurricanes are eager to pull off what hasn’t been done in Coral Gables since 2014.

Now, all they must do is win.

The Canes face UF at 1 p.m. Sunday at Mark Light Field in the rubber game of the annual, early-season three-game series.

Since 2010, Miami has won the series only twice, but the last time the Hurricanes did it in Coral Gables was in 2014, when they won two of three.

The Gators won Friday’s opener 7-3, but Miami stormed back Saturday with three home runs and an impressive pitching performance by starter Rafe Schlesinger for his second win against no losses in 2024.

Schlesinger struck out nine Gators and allowed three runs on seven hits and two walks in 6 1/3 innings, improving his ERA to 2.08.

Miami’s home runs Saturday were hit by Jason Torres, Edgardo Villegas Daniel Cuvet, accounting for 8 RBI.

UM will start left-handed junior Herick Hernandez (2-0, 0.00 ERA) on Sunday. The Gators were set to start left-handed two-way star Jac Caglianone (0-0, 9.00).
