Rowing News | Miami Rowing Wins Sunshine State Invite


 

SARASOTA, Fla. – The morning started off with a bang and continued in that way, with Miami rowing claiming the title at the Sunshine State Invite Saturday, March 30.

The First Varsity Eight boat started the day by taking gold with a time of 6:33.69, fueling Miami on to the crown.

It was Miami’s first-ever first place finish in the first varsity eight in nearly a decade of competing at the Sunshine State Invite. UM defeated Iowa, Tulsa, UCF, Boston College, Michigan State, UNC and Drexel with the victory.

Just minutes later, the second varsity eight boat narrowly missed gold, coming up just over a second off the pace set by UCF. The Canes posted a time of 6:39.88 in that race, defeating six Power Five foes in the final.

The final varsity eight competition of the day saw Miami finish top five with a time of 7:03.46. The day concluded with the varsity four boats, with Miami’s first squad finishing third at 7:14.92 and the second boat clocking a fourth-place time of 7:28.62.

Miami won two heats on day one and a final in the Saturday finale, its first at the Sunshine State Invite.

The Hurricanes open up April between the Miami International Invite April 6-7 and the Lake Natoma Invite (Sacramento, Calif.) that same weekend.
