CORAL GABLES, Fla. —  In a four hour battle that came down to a third set tiebreak, the No. 8 North Carolina Tar Heels (9-2) found a way to fend off the No. 33 Miami Hurricanes (3-3), 4-3. Carolina will return to Chapel Hill with its first 2-0 ACC weekend of the season.

The Tar Heels began the day in new doubles pairs on all three courts. On court one, Elizabeth Scotty and Carson Tanguilig won 6-2 to give the Tar Heels the doubles advantage. On court two, Fiona Crawley and Reilly Tran clinched the doubles point with a 6-3 victory.

In singles play, Reilly Tran won in straight sets on court four to give UNC its second point. Abbey Forbes, Thea Rabman, Carson Tanguilig and Anika Yarlagadda each went to a third set in their matches. 

In her third set, Thea Rabman pulled away for a win to give Carolina its third point while Forbes and Yarlagadda dropped their third set. 

With the match tied 3-3, Tanguilig fought to force a third set tiebreak where she won 7-6 and clinched the win for the Tar Heels.

  2. Crawley/Tran vs. Schuknecht/Balzert – 6-3 (clinch)
  3. Forbes/Evans vs. Boch-Collins/Noel – 5-3 (UF)
