Just in time for Oktoberfest, Germany is making its Miami real estate and business presence felt in a big way. While relocating New Yorkers and generations of Latin Americans remain the dominant feeder markets for South Florida, German companies and individuals have quietly made inroads that clearly indicate a growing and unique fascination with the region. Is this a short-lived trend, or one we can expect to see for a while? We explore some significant recent Miami and Germany connections in this edition of “South Florida by the numbers.”

Germany’s rank among countries searching for South Florida homes in September 2023, the second consecutive year the country’s searches for Miami real estate increased during the fall. Germany also had two cities (Berlin and Frankfurt) finish among the top-searching global cities, and also finished No. 1 in global Miami searches in October 2022. [SouthFloridaAgentMagazine]

Price paid by German-born music producer Dirk Ulrich for a Jupiter oceanfront home last year, becoming the third Palm Beach County property in his nearly $27 million local portfolio. Beginning next summer, the number of weekly nonstop flights Germany-based Condor Airlines will provide from Miami International Airport to Frankfurt, with connecting services to more than 100 European destinations. [BizJournals]

Age of a windjammer yacht in the Sea Cloud Cruises fleet, a German cruise line which recently announced plans to establish its only North American office in downtown Fort Lauderdale by the end of the year. Based in Hamburg, the company closed its New York office in 2014 after shutting down its European riverboat line, which mainly served American customers. The company describes its three vessels as a combination of the amenities of a luxury cruise with the atmosphere of a majestic tall ship, and will offer stops in the Bahamas and Key West. Time the NFL Network will broadcast its Nov. 5 game between the Miami Dolphins and the Kansas City Chiefs, which will be played in Frankfurt, Germany.
