Marcus Lemonis Joins The Real Deal’s South Florida Forum
Miami-raised businessman Marcus Lemonis knows a thing or two about real estate.
The entrepreneur bootstrapped his way up to become CEO of retailer Camping World, which now has nearly 200 locations nationwide.
But Lemonis’ expertise isn’t limited to retail. Talking with The Real Deal’s Amir Korangy on an episode of Coffee Talk earlier this year, Lemonis explained the importance of using real estate to establish generational wealth, development and more. And as an investor, Lemonis has not only bought his own real estate, but used real estate investments to drive urban renewal.
He relayed the story of Horton, Kansas, a struggling town featured on his CNBC show “The Profit”.
“I said to [the townspeople], I’m willing to buy buildings on the street, I’m willing to loan money, I’m willing to give you guys the chance to take your town and your street and move it forward,” he told Korangy. “But I have a condition. If you want me to invest in you, I need you to invest in you first. … And it happened in the most magical way.” You can watch the video below for that full story.
Indeed, Lemonis said that his original business is in many ways a real estate business. “I’m actually in the home business,” he said, “except the kind of homes that I’m in move.” (Camping World is one of the nation’s largest RV providers.)
But Lemonis has become best known not as Camping World’s CEO, but as the star of CNBC’s “The Profit,” where he helped turn around struggling small businesses, and most recently “The Renovator,” where he helped families find more value in their residential assets.
