2 accused of stealing iPhones at Rolling Loud Miami – NBC 6 South Florida

Two people were arrested and accused of stealing dozens of phones from festivalgoers at Rolling Loud over the weekend, police said.

Kevin Andres Vargas Chistancho, 28, and Dayana MarinMariSanchez, 22, were arrested Sunday on the last day of the hip hop music festival at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens.

According to an arrest affidavit, officers approached Chistancho after noticing he wasn’t wearing an event wristband and was carrying an opaque bookbag that went against event rules.

After searching the bookbag, they found 12 stolen iPhones inside another black bag that’s commonly used to block phone signals, police said.

Shortly after, officers stopped MarinMariSanchez running through a crowd with a black bag and found 16 iPhones wrapped in tinfoil in her possession, as well as a victim’s wallet, an arrest affidavit stated.

Detectives said while they were going through Sanchez’s bag, one of the iPhones started ringing. When the detective answered the phone, a woman told them she was tracking her phone that was stolen three hours earlier.

Jeremiah King and Emilia Underwood flew from West Virginia to Miami for the festival. King said someone stole his phone and debit card Saturday night, so he doesn’t know who’s responsible.

“I just felt a bump but I didn’t feel nothing else,” King said.

“We were standing there watching, somebody slammed into the back of him and said sorry, we walked somewhere else and realized his phone was not in his pocket anymore,” Underwood said.

King said he can’t track his phone at all. He’s worried there are other cellphone thieves and there are many more victims.

“I honestly think I blacked out from how mad I was, it was not a fun night at all,” King said.

“People are professionals at doing that, so it kind of sucks people have to take stuff from other people,” Underwood said.

Both Chistancho and MarinMariSanchez face third-degree grand theft charges, records stated. MarinMariSanchez faces additional charges of dealing in stolen property and giving officers a false name.

Chistancho bonded out of jail as of Friday. MarinMariSanchez is still in jail. She has submitted bond but has an immigration hold. Attorney information was not available.
