Louisville lands a commitment from Miami WR Cataurus Hicks

The University of Louisville football recruiting Class of 2023 grew by one on Sunday night.

Coming off an unofficial visit to Louisville on Friday night, Miami Central High School wide receiver Cataurus Hicks committed to the Cardinals. Hicks had 10 total scholarship offers but is an unranked prospect who is having a big senior season at Miami Central.

The Cardinals offered him a scholarship on Aug. 30 and he visited this weekend for the Florida State game.

The 5-foot-9, 160-pound Hicks joined two of his teammates – U of L linebacker commitment Stanquan Clark and defensive line target Rueben Bains on the visit.

“I loved the atmosphere and I feel like they are missing a part in their offensive and I can fulfill the part they are missing,” Hicks told Cardinal Authority. “What made me commit was the coaches made me feel wanted, at home and they love Florida guys.”

Hicks said he also watched former U of L star Tutu Atwell’s career at Louisville and believes he can play a similar role. He said he watched Atwell when he was at Miami Northwestern and then went on to have a stellar career at Louisville.

“Tutu did good there, so I know I can,” he said. “The coaches were very happy with my decision and welcomed me.”

Hicks is expected to be ranked in the next recruiting update by 247Sports. According to 247Sports national analyst Andrew Ivins, Hicks is “putting together a strong senior season.” He scored a key touchdown in Miami Central’s upset of national power IMG Academy and hauled in a pair of touchdowns two weeks ago in a rivalry win over nearby Booker T. Washington, who features some Power Five talent in the secondary.

Hicks is the 15th commitment in the ’23 class for the Cardinals and the fourth wide receiver, joining four-star DeAndre Moore, Williams Fowles, and Jahlil McClain.
