Miami basketball fourth in final preseason ACC Basketball Power Rankings

After signing two of the top 15 2022 transfers and adding the 23rd-ranked recruiting class the Miami basketball program is fourth in the 2022-23 ACC preseason power rankings by 247 Sports. The additions of transfer Nijel Pack and Norchad Omier and infusion of size from the freshman class should make Miami an ACC contender.

Omier and Pack will be instant starters for Miami and team with Isaiah Wong to be the Hurricanes’ primary scorers in 2022-23. Omier provides Miami with a low post presence they did not have last season. As the 2021-22 Sun Belt Player of the Year at Arkansas State, Omier averaged 17.9 points per game and 12.2 rebounds.

Omier was an efficient offensive player shooting 63.2 percent from the floor in 2021-22. Pack is an elite scorer at all three levels. Pack averaged 17.4 PPG, 3.8 rebounds, 2.2 assists, shot 45.5 percent from the floor, made 43.6 percent of his three-point attempts and 84.5 of his three-point attempts.

Jordan Miller and Wong return for Miami as starters. Anthony Walker returns after being the sixth man and is projected to start with Omier up front this season. Miami will have far more size this season Omier and Walker up front and all four freshmen signees 6’6 or taller. Jim Larranaga will have far more versatility in 2022-23.

4. MIAMI
Projected starting lineup: G Nijel Pack, G Isaiah Wong, G Jordan Miller, F Norchad Omier, F Anthony Walker

Miami killed it this offseason with the additions of Pack and Omier. Pack provides the shot-making and Omier gives Miami the versatile forward who can fly around on defense and also make really good passes. With Wong and Miller back, Miami has a similar look of the team that advanced to the Elite Eight.

Miami will be looking for more consistency, but it’s clear that the Hurricanes will be one of the most talented teams in the ACC.

Isaac Trotter summarized the sixth version of the offseason ACC Power Rankings for 247 Sports. Among the non-conference games for the Miami basketball team during the 2022-23 season are Providence in the Hall of Fame Tip-off Classic and Rutgers in the ACC-Big 10 Challenge. Larranaga played for Providence in the early 1970s.

Miami improved significantly last season after having its first winning season in four years. The Hurricanes advanced to the NCAA Tournament (Midwest) Regional Final for the first time in program history. Larranaga has Miami trending back to being among the elite programs in the ACC ACC again.
