Neville and Callender Named to MLS Team of the Week

Head coach Phil Neville and goalkeeper Drake Callender have been named to the Team of the Week for week 13 of the 2022 MLS regular season. The pair earned the honors after the team defeated the New York Red Bulls 2-0 on Sunday, May 22 at DRV PNK Stadium. The team’s win earned the club three points and snapped the Red Bulls’ seven road-match unbeaten streak.

Neville earned his spot after strategically leading the squad to a win over New York Red Bulls on Sunday, just days after a road draw with Philadelphia. The coach made key substitutions throughout the match, including bringing on Gonzalo Higuaín, Victor Ulloa and Robert Taylor, who combined on Inter Miami’s second goal.

Neville has guided the team through a five-match undefeated streak at home, a three-match unbeaten stretch in MLS play, and also snapped the Red Bulls’ seven-game undefeated run on the road. This will be the coach’s first honor as the Head Coach for the MLS Team of the Week.

Callender earned his second consecutive Team of the Week title after another impressive clean sheet performance against the Red Bulls. The goalkeeper denied the Red Bulls with four saves and a 96% pass rate. The outstanding performance also awarded Callender his second consecutive Heineken Man of the Match award. This is his third clean sheet of the season, previously recording clean sheets against Miami FC in the U.S Open Cup and D.C. United in MLS play.

Callender joins Damion Lowe and Leonardo Campana as the third Inter Miami player to be included in the Team of the Week multiple times this season.

This is the sixth time for the season that Inter Miami has been named to the Team of the Week.
