Miami man accused of shooting victim following argument in Wynwood

MIAMI – Detectives arrested a Miami man Wednesday after police said he shot and injured another man in Wynwood last October.

According to Miami police, 24-year-old Eltohm Matute is facing one count of attempted second-degree murder after he allegedly opened fire on a man following an argument that broke out around 11:30 a.m. on Oct. 28.

After responding to a shooting call near Northwest 12th Avenue and Northwest Fourth Street, police and fire rescue personnel said they treated the victim who suffered a minor laceration to his right shin.

The victim told police that he and Matute got into an argument after Matute was banned from visiting the incident location due to a prior altercation, according to the report.

The victim said the argument escalated when Matute pulled a gun from his waistband and shot at the victim three times, grazing him in his right leg/ shin area, the report stated.

Police said Matute fled westbound on Northwest Fourth Street following the incident.

Detectives said they located three .40 caliber casings after inspecting the area.

According to the investigators, the victim told police that he had known Matute for over a year and identified him as the suspect who shot him through a single photo.

As of Thursday, jail records show Matute was being held without bond at the Metro West Detention Center.
