London Back on Top for Home Seekers
The pandemic-induced allure of English countryside homes has appeared to have waned, at least according to a report from Rightmove. The U.K.-based online property agent found that searches for homes in London surged 9% this year over 2021, propelling the capital city into the top spot for prospective property hunters. Furthermore, searches for properties in Cornwall and Devon, pandemic favorites, fell 18% and 17%, respectively. While the countryside haunts may no longer reign, their tumble wasn’t too far, as Cornwall ended up capturing the No. 2 slot and Devon No. 3. City A.M
U.S. Rental Prices Slow for Six Straight Months
October marked the sixth straight month of slowing price growth for rental homes in the U.S., according to the CoreLogic Single-Family Rent Index. Rental prices grew just 8.8% in October, which, while the lowest rate of appreciation in over a year, is still three times more than pre-pandemic growth levels. Miami led the nation for price growth for the 15th straight month, with 16.3% appreciation, yet even in the Magic City there are clear signs of slowing since the annual price growth of 40% last spring. Swedish Property Prices Have Further to Fall
Sweden’s worst housing price slump in three decades continues unabated, and experts predict more pain is on the way. According to the HOX housing index from Valueguard, prices, which have declined for eight straight months, are down 15% from their March peak. Forecasters are predicting that prices could drop as much as 20%, which would wipe out the gains made over the course of the pandemic, but declines could be even deeper and more protracted if unemployment continues to rise and interest rate increases are higher than expected.
