RedHawks Sweep MAC Player of the Week Awards

CLEVELAND– The Mid-American Conference announced its weekly award winners today, and Miami Soccer swept all three categories. Maris Jennings was named the conference’s Offensive Player of the Week, Sophia Penegor was named Defensive Player of the Week, and Dominique Popa was named Goalkeeper of the Week.

Jennings scored the game-winning goal in Miami’s 1-0 win at Western Michigan, her third game-winner of the season. She extended her streak of 90-minute appearances to eight games and has reached career highs in goals and points in a season.

Penegor played all 90 minutes for the first time this season in Miami’s victory, the RedHawks’ first win in Kalamazoo since 2016. Led by Penegor, the Miami defense held the Broncos to two shots on goal and handed WMU just its third home shutout in four years.

Popa made two diving saves in Miami’s win, recording her 30th career shutout and seventh of the season. She ranks in the top five in the MAC in shutouts and extended her own program record for career clean sheets.

The RedHawks will play their final home match of the season this Thursday, Oct. 29 against Bowling Green at 7 p.m.
