NBA Rumors: Miami Heat Could Target Montrezl Harrell
6’7″ big man Montrezl Harrell isn’t going to win any Defensive Player of the Year awards, but he’s a guy who can bring life off the bench and provide a spark offensively.
With the Hornets and Wizards this season, he averaged 13.1 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 2 assists per game on 64% shooting.
And now, reports are saying that the Miami Heat could be his next landing spot. According to Sean Deveney of Heavy, Pat Riley’s crew team is considering signing Harrell if they strike out on other players.
“Miami would be one team to look out for. Especially if they make a big move and they have a lot of roster holes that need to be filled on the cheap late in the summer,”
In Miami’s system, alongside the emphatic Jimmy Butler, Harrell would thrive coming off the bench. In fact, if things turn out the right way, he could return to his peak form, which won Sixth Man of the Year back in 2020.
For now, Miami’s focus remains on Kevin Durant. While they are struggling to put together a suitable trade package, the Heat are one of the only teams with a real shot to land the 2x champ — and they aren’t taking it lightly.
Heat GM Andy Elisburg and Nets GM Sean Marks were seen talking this morning in Las Vegas, per sources. Heat continues its pursuit of Kevin Durant.
Andy and Sean were chatting at their hotel. Heat determined to exhaust all options to acquire Durant before pursuing anything else significant. Donovan Mitchell obviously looms as an option, though he hasn’t requested trade and Jazz isn’t shopping him.
Nobody knows how the KD sweepstakes will play out, but the Heat do have other options if that pursuit falls through.
One such option is Trez. And while he may not be the highest impact player, the guy brings a lot to the table and will add some depth to Miami’s lineup.
