Narrowing your search by price, bedrooms and bathrooms is only just the beginning – Realtor.com offers dozens of search filters to help you find what you want in your next home. Here’s a few tips to make the most of your search on Realtor.com.
Start your search with a location
Choose the location where you want to start your search. Enter a state, city, county, zip code, neighborhood, address or school to get started. Click the Search button to display a list of for-sale properties in your desired area.
Can’t define your preferred area? When using the Map view on Realtor.com® or the app, you can also click on the Draw icon to draw your own search boundaries.
Narrow your search
After performing a search from the homepage, use filters to narrow down the selection of homes by price, the number of bedrooms and baths, property type, and more.
Price: Set a minimum and maximum price to fit your price range. Check out our affordability calculator to help determine how much you can afford.
Property type: Whether it’s a single family, condo, townhome, lot or farm, pick any or all options from the property type filter to narrow down your search to only the types of homes that best suit your needs.
Number of bedrooms and bathrooms: Select your preferred range of bedrooms and bathrooms, from a studio to 5+ bedrooms and one or more bathrooms.
Listing Status: Looking for an existing home, new construction or a property in a 55+ community? Or do you want to hide foreclosures or homes that are already pending or contingent for sale? Select from any of the options to help narrow down your selection of homes.
You can also search for homes with recent price reductions, upcoming open houses or that offer 3D or virtual tours.
Take your home search to the next level
A host of advanced filters under the More Filters dropdown can take your search to another level and help you quickly identify properties that meet your exact needs.
- Keyword search – Don’t see a desired home feature in the search filter dropdowns? Perform a keyword search for terms such as “pool,” “gated” or “pond.”
- Commute – search for homes that fall within a maximum drive time – from 10 to 60 minutes or more – from your office or commute address
- Max HOA fees per month – select No HOA fees or enter your max amount
Days on Realtor.com – limit your search to homes listed today or up to 30 days ago- Expand your search radius (in miles) – expand your search by 0 to 50 miles or choose to include nearby areas
- Home Size – select Any or enter a minimum or maximum square footage
- Lot Size – select Any or enter your minimum or maximum lot size up to 20 acres
- Home Age – only want new construction or the charm of an older home, select 0 up to 100 years
- Stories – choose from any, single or multiple home stories
- Garage – select 1 to 3+ garage stalls
- Parking – looking for a carport or boat/RV parking, make your selection here
- Heating / Cooling – choose from central heating, central air or forced air
- Inside / Rooms – want a home with a basement, hardwood floors, fireplace or disability features? Or how about a designated dining room, den/office, or family room? Select any or all to narrow your home choices
- Outside Features – is a pool, spa/hot tub or horse facilities on your must-have list – pick from our most commonly searched exterior features
- Lot / Views – make your selections to see only listings for lots or homes that are waterfront, on a golf course, cul-de-sac or corner lot, or offer ocean, mountain or lake views
- Community Amenities – choose from popular community amenities like a pool, spa or hot tub, golf course, boat facilities, tennis courts, a clubhouses or security features
More lifestyle filters
While in the map view, you can also enable different layers on the map to discover nearby community features. Simply click through the different toggle options on the side of the map for information about schools, nearby noise, flood risk, transit options like bus stops and bike lanes, and lifestyle amenities, such as coffee shops, grocery stores and gas stations.
Save your search and get real-time alerts
To get real-time or daily notifications about new listings that match your specific search criteria, click the Save Search button and create an account if you haven’t already.
Saved searches – accessible by clicking the red heart icon – allow you to save your search criteria and filter refinements and quickly run the search again at any time.
Create and save as many searches as you need to keep track of homes in different neighborhoods or other search characteristics, like condos versus single-family homes.
