Is Messi leaving Inter Miami? Contract details revealed

Lionel Messi will remain at Inter Miami through the end of the 2028 MLS season, after the club officially announced that the Argentine has signed a contract extension. The new deal will keep the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner at the centre of Las Garzas’ sporting project for at least another two years.

The Florida club’s captain expressed his happiness at extending his stay and his excitement about the challenges ahead. One of his main ambitions will be to play at Miami Freedom Park, Inter Miami’s new stadium, which is set to become the team’s home.

David Beckham celebrates Messi’s renewal

The World Cup winner’s continued presence was also welcomed by David Beckham, Inter Miami co-owner, who highlighted the importance of retaining a player of the Argentine’s calibre.

Since arriving in the summer of 2023, Messi has become the team’s leading figure and helped transform the club’s history. During his time in Florida, he has won the 2023 Leagues Cup and the 2024 MLS Supporters’ Shield, while also collecting several individual honours.

Messi has also made his mark on the international stage with Las Garzas, helping the team reach the round of 16 at the 2025 Club World Cup and the semifinals of the CONCACAF Champions Cup that same year.

At the time of the contract announcement, the Rosarino had recorded 71 goals and 44 assists in 82 official appearances for Inter Miami. Those figures make him the club’s all-time leading goalscorer and assist provider.

Will Messi retire at Inter Miami?

Speculation about a possible departure continues to surface, but neither the player nor the club’s management has indicated that an early separation is on the cards. For now, his contract runs through the 2028 MLS season.

The renewal means Messi will remain Inter Miami’s leading figure until at least 2028, when he will be 41. It also gives the Argentine another opportunity to add to his achievements in Florida and further strengthen his legacy as one of the most influential players in MLS history.
