No. 11 Notre Dame leads No. 1 Miami 3-0 in the 1st quarter
NOTRE DAME — No. 11 Notre Dame leads No.1 Miami 10-0 in the 2nd quarter at Notre Dame Stadium.
The Irish received the opening kickoff and marched into Miami territory. Nolan James Jr. rushed four times for 21 yards on the drive. Spencer Porath kicked a 44 yard field goal to give the Irish a 3-0 lead early in the first quarter.
Earlier in the week Marcus Freeman implored the Irish fan base to be loud, and they obliged. The home crowd cheered loudly as Miami’s offense took the field, and roared when a Boubacar Traore sack forced the Hurricanes to punt on its opening possession.
Notre Dame failed to score on it’s next possession, but flipped the field, pinning Miami on the three yard line. The first quarter was dominated by the Irish defense, limiting Miami to 28 total yards in the opening quarter.
The first quarter ended with a 26-yard pass from CJ Carr to Jordan Faison, moving the Irish into Miami territory to begin the 2nd quarter.
Three plays into the 2nd quarter Notre Dame found the endzone when Carr hit Jordan Faison on a 27 yard deep route. Faison showed great body control to get a foot in bounds. The game’s first touchdown put Notre Dame in front 10-0.
Earlier in the week, Notre Dame was ranked 11th in the initial college football playoff rankings, adding urgency to an already hyped game.
Notre Dame has nine wins all-time against the number one ranked team in the Associated Press poll.
