Miami man named suspect in 2024 slaying of Wellington nurse
PALM BEACH COUNTY, Fla. (CBS12) — A 17-month investigation ended in handcuffs Tuesday as deputies nabbed a Miami man accused of the roadside slaying of a 35-year-old Wellingon nurse.
The incident occurred on October 28, 2024, when deputies from the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 6100 block of Lyons Road in suburban Lake Worth at 10:20 p.m. following reports of an unresponsive woman.
The victim, later identified as 35-year-old Linda Campitelli, was found lying by the side of the road and was pronounced dead upon the deputies’ arrival.

On Tuesday, nearly a year and a half after the incident, investigators concluded that her death was not accidental but appeared to be the result of a homicide.

The investigation identified the suspect as 38-year-old Rene J. Perez, who was arrested Tuesday in Miami.
Deputies say Perez was booked into the Palm Beach County Jail for counts of first-degree murder with a deadly weapon and tampering with physical evidence.
His first appearance is scheduled for Wednesday, per PBSO.
