Driver in custody for suspected DUI after van nearly crashes into immigration office in NW Miami-Dade – WSVN 7News | Miami News, Weather, Sports
NORTHWEST MIAMI-DADE, FLA. (WSVN) – A driver is in custody after, authorities say, he nearly crashed into an immigration office in Northwest Miami-Dade, Thursday evening.
According to the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to reports of an assault in a parking lot near 8801 NW Seventh Avenue at approximately 7:40 p.m.
Upon arrival, deputies approached the subject, who was sitting in the driver’s seat of a van. The subject then reportedly refused to exit the vehicle and drove off at high speed through the parking lot.
Moments later, the subject came to a crashing stop just before a U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services building, leaving the van lodged on concrete fixtures outside of the building, inches short of several windows.
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue crews were dispatched to check the subject for any injuries before he was taken into custody by deputies on suspicion of driving while under the influence.
7News cameras were rolling as deputies conducted a sobriety test on the driver.
An investigation into the circumstances that led up to the crash is underway.
