Inter Miami CF Forward Leonardo Campana Voted MLS Player of the Week presented by Continental Tire for Week 6
NEW YORK (Monday, April 11, 2022) – Inter Miami FC forward Leonardo Campana was voted the Major League Soccer Player of the Week presented by Continental Tire for the sixth week of the 2022 MLS season.
The first career hat trick from the 21-year-old Campana, including goals in the 17th, 23rd and the game-winning score in the 88th minute, propelled the club to a 3-2 victory over the New England Revolution and its first win of the 2022 campaign (Watch All Three Goals Here). The trifecta was the first in the brief history of Inter Miami CF and the fourth of the Major League Soccer season, joining LAFC’s Carlos Vela (Week 1), the New York Red Bulls’ Lewis Morgan (Week 2) and FC Dallas’ Jesús Ferreira (Week 4).
Campana opened the scoring in the 17th minute, heading home a well-placed cross from Ariel Lassiter (Watch Here), and quickly followed up with his second just six minutes later, as a beautiful display of passing found Campana open for the score (Watch Here). His third and final score of the match proved pivotal, as he tapped home a ball that evaded the New England goalkeeper for the game-winning goal (Watch Here).
This is Campana’s first MLS Player of the Week award and the third in Inter Miami history, joining 2021 recipients Gonzalo Higuaín (Week 5) and Rodolfo Pizarro (Week 21).
Inter Miami CF look to build off its first win of the season as it travels to Seattle to face the Sounders on Saturday, April 16 (10 p.m. ET, FS1 / FOX Deportes).
The MLS Player of the Week presented by Continental Tire is selected each week of the regular season through both media and fan voting in a process conducted by MLS Communications. A panel of journalists from the North American Soccer Reporters (NASR) comprises 75 percent of the vote, while a Twitter fan vote represents the remaining 25 percent of voting. NASR consists of members of print, television, radio and online media.
