South Florida by the Numbers: Football and Real Estate

“South Florida by the numbers” is a web feature that catalogues the most notable, quirky and surprising real estate statistics.

Football may still live here in South Florida, but it’s currently splitting time between a brand-new ultra-luxury waterfront penthouse and a tumbledown shack in the middle of nowhere.

On one extreme, the University of Miami Hurricanes already look faster, hungrier, and more talented than last year’s team, which came just within reach of a national championship. At the other end of the spectrum, we have … the Miami Dolphins, whom some analysts project to not win a single game this season. These are decidedly strange times for local gridiron enthusiasts.

Regardless of the outcomes, it’s always fascinating when the worlds of football and real estate collide, where every second counts and everyone watches the scoreboard. We explore these pigskin and property connections in this edition of “South Florida by the numbers.”

$7.9 Million
Amount paid by UM football coach (and former player) Mario Cristobal in 2022 for his 8,800-square-foot home in Coral Gables’ Ponce-Davis neighborhood. The previous owners paid $7 million for the six-bedroom, seven-and-a-half-bathroom house in 2021.

$1.89 Million
Original list price for Miami Dolphins head coach (and former Green Bay Packers defensive coordinator) Jeff Hafley’s former five-bedroom home in Ledgeview, Wisconsin. Hafley is in his first season as head coach for the Dolphins after two years as an assistant with the Packers.

$2.6 Million
Sale price of former Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa’s Davie home in 2025. Tagovailoa paid $1.7 million for the home in 2020, but by 2025 it was already clear that the former Alabama QB’s time with the Dolphins would be coming to an end. He is currently signed to the Atlanta Falcons.

$7.7 million
March 2026 list price of former Miami Dolphins receiver Tyreek Hill’s Southwest Ranches home, which was taken off the market in August. The six-time Pro Bowler is an unsigned free agent, as he continues to rehabilitate from a brutal knee dislocation and ACL tear suffered last season.

$5.45 million
Sale price of former Miami Dolphins center Mike Pouncey’s Coconut Isle estate in Fort Lauderdale, which changed hands in May. The three-story, five-bedroom mansion was initially listed for $6.95 million and featured a unique 30-yard backyard football field featuring the Miami Dolphins logo.
