RedHawks Clipped 4-2 by SEMO


CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – Miami fell to Southeast Missouri State Sunday 4-2 after letting up two runs in the eighth inning to fall behind on the scoreboard. Hayden Christiansen hit his first home run as a RedHawk during the game. Miami falls to 8-4 with the loss, while SEMO improves to 6-7.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Clayton Burke started on the mound for Miami. He held opponents to just three hits during the first three innings.
  • Christiansen put Miami on the board first with a solo homer on an empty count during the fourth inning.
  • SEMO homered after an HBP in the bottom of the fourth, taking a 2-1 lead.
  • Burke saw three up and three down in the bottom of the fifth.
  • Cameron Novak came in to pitch in relief for the RedHawks in the sixth. He recorded three straight outs to keep Miami within one.
  • Tommy Harrison hit the tying RBI in the top of the eighth. Marcus Dierks led off with a single and Ryan Novak took an HBP, setting up a double from Harrison that brought Dierks around. Miami proceeded to load the bases, but SEMO recorded two straight strikeouts to end the inning tied 2-2.
  • SEMO responded with three hits in the bottom of the eighth that scored two runs. After a leadoff double, two runners singled, scoring one run, and a sac bunt scored the other.
  • Dierks singled in the bottom of the ninth, but Miami was unable to score, finalizing a 4-2 loss.

 
MIAMI GAME NOTES:

  • Dierks went 3-for-5 with a run.
  • Harrison went 2-for-4 with an RBI.
  • Christiansen went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run.
  • Burke held opponents to two runs and five hits during 5.0 innings of work while striking out four batters.
  • Cameron Novak held opponents to one hit in 1.1 innings

 
UP NEXT:
The RedHawks will face Wright State on the road this Tuesday at 3 p.m. before returning to Oxford for their first home series of the season against Eastern Michigan on Friday.
