FDLE investigating fatal deputy-involved shooting in northwest Miami-Dade

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. — The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating a deputy-involved shooting in northwest Miami-Dade that left a woman dead Saturday afternoon.

According to the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded around 4 p.m. to the area of Northwest 189th Street and Northwest 55th Avenue after receiving a report of a woman harming herself with a knife.

Deputies tried to talk to the woman, but during the encounter, a deputy fired their service weapon, striking her, authorities said.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue transported the woman to a nearby hospital, where she later died from her injuries. No deputies were hurt.

FDLE is leading the investigation, which remains ongoing. Officials said no additional details were immediately available.
