Miami Falls at No. 6 Denver in Series Finale
DENVER– The Miami University hockey team dropped a 6-2 decision at No. 6/6 Denver Saturday night in NCHC action. Casper Nassen and Michael Quinn scored for the RedHawks, who move to 3-15-2 (0-10-0 NCHC). Bruno Bruveris stopped a career-high 36 shots from the Pioneers (17-5-0, 6-4-0 NCHC).
HOW IT HAPPENED
- 8:56 1st (Denver 1-0) | Shortly after Miami killed off the game’s first penalty, the Pioneers picked up a 5-on-5 goal to go in front. Rieger Lorenz wrapped a pass around from behind the net for Jared Wright, who slid a shot under Bruveris and in. Boston Buckberger had the second assist on the play.
- 16:58 1st (Denver 2-0) | Denver added a power-play goal late in the first period, as the Pioneers were able to jam at a puck in a scrum near the net and keep it alive before the RedHawks could freeze it. Zeev Buium ended up finally working it free to Carter King behind the goal, and King’s pass teed up a one-timer from Jack Devine to make it 2-0.
- 1:04 2nd (Denver 3-0) | Harris opened the second period with a power-play tally, as King cycled the puck to Devine at the point and he then found Harris on his right for a quick finish.
- 12:09 2nd (Denver 4-0) | Aidan Thompson added an unassisted goal later in the middle stanza, as he raced forward from behind his own blue line all the way into the Pios’ offensive zone and fired to give DU a 4-0 advantage.
- 14:50 2nd (Miami 4-1) | Miami capitalized on its first power play of the game with a one-timer blast from Nassen in the left circle. Johnny Waldron started the play with a pass up top, which Quinn managed to hold in the zone before relaying a pass to set up Nassen’s goal.
- 10:44 3rd (Denver 5-1) | Eric Pohlkamp lit the lamp midway through the third period, connecting from long range off a point-to-point pass from Kent Anderson. Thompson added an assist on the play.
- 12:45 3rd (Miami 5-2) | Two minutes later, Quinn answered back for the Red and White on the power play. The freshman defenseman exchanged passes with Waldron before letting loose a rocket from near the blue line. Miami captain Ryan Sullivan started the play by sending the initial pass to Quinn at the top of the zone and earned an assist.
- 15:22 3rd (Denver 6-2) | Kieran Cebrian picked up DU’s final goal with less than five minutes to play in the contest, finding the top corner of the net from a difficult angle after Hagen Burrows held the puck in the Pioneers’ offensive zone to create the scoring chance.
NOTES
- With a goal and an assist, Quinn produced his first career multi-point game.
- Waldron matched his career high with two assists, and leads the Red and White this season in both assists (10) and points (14).
- Nassen lit the lamp for the first time since Oct. 26 vs. Lindenwood and scored his fourth power-play goal of the year.
- Sullivan contributed his 15th career assist and also blocked a season-high three shots.
- Denver had not allowed multiple power-play goals in the same game since Feb. 23, 2024 (also against Miami), a streak of 34 consecutive contests.
