Miami Heat legend Dwyane Wade honored for contributions to transgender community

MIAMI BEACH, Fla. – Basketball icon and Miami Heat legend Dwyane Wade appeared in Miami Beach Thursday to accept the Elevate Prize Catalyst Award, honoring his advocacy for the transgender community and his contributions through the Wade Family Foundation.

During the ceremony, Wade unveiled a new website for transgender youth in Florida, demonstrating his ongoing commitment even in retirement.

Onstage at the Foundation’s second annual Make Good Famous Summit, Wade graciously accepted the award, joining activists, changemakers, leaders and cultural influencers from around the world.

Together, they spoke on how others can explore avenues to foster collective action and advance toward a fairer and more equitable society.

“I am honored to accept the Elevate Prize Catalyst Award and share this honor with my daughter, Zaya, who has served as the catalyzing force behind Translatable,” said Wade at the event. “We hope that Translatable provides our youth with a community to support their growth, mental health, and well-being, and that this space ignites more conversation leading to greater understanding and acceptance.”

Wade’s influence in South Florida remains palpable as he continues to leave a lasting impression.
