BREAKING: Miami lands 6-foot-5, 315-pound IOL TK Muex
Jacksonville (Fla.) Duncan U. Fletcher interior offensive lineman Takaylen “TK” Muex had a chaotic nine days.
The 6-foot-5, 315-pound offensive guard landed a Miami offer May 7, scheduled an official visit 13 hours later and announced his commitment to the Hurricanes Thursday evening after debating committing for roughly a week, he told CaneSport. Miami offensive line coach Alex Mirabal told Muex when he extended the offer last week he could commit at any time, even that day if he wanted to, and Fletcher decided earlier this week he was ready to pull the trigger.
Fletcher is now Miami’s lone offensive line commit in the 2025 class after three-star offensive tackle Lamar Williams decommitted last week. He is Miami’s seventh pledge this cycle.
“To be honest, I feel like the school just needs me,” Muex said. “They make me feel like they need me instead of just wanting me. I feel like I’m needed. I want to go somewhere where I feel like I’m needed and not just used for the business part of it.”
Muex said he feels he fits Miami’s culture, mentality and offensive scheme and has the skillset to be a key contributor in future years. Mirabal compared Muex to starting offensive guard Anez Cooper when he extended the offer last week and pitched the staff’s record of offensive line development, but the plan Miami has for Muex made the Hurricanes significantly more attractive, he said.
“Their plan for me and their plan as a school, it fits me,” Muex said. “I’m trying to go somewhere that’s a great fit. I’m really excited. And what makes it better, they want my family to be committed, so I just like that they’re wanting to bring my family in and get everybody involved.”
Muex said he partially chose to commit Thursday because he wanted to lock in his spot with the Hurricanes and didn’t want to have a transfer player take a scholarship spot that could have been given to him. He added he also understands how special it is to be a school’s only committed offensive lineman for a time before other pledges are announced in the coming months.
But he would have been equally excited regardless of when he made his decision.
“Man, it feels good, to be honest,” Muex said. “Really good. I haven’t had a better feeling yet.”
CaneSport’s Take
Muex still plans to take official visits to UCF, FAU and one other program this summer, but he said he plans to lock in with Miami unless something drastically changes. He said he doesn’t want to waste anybody’s time and wants to commit to the coaching staff he feels wants him, which means the Hurricanes should have little to worry about barring the unforeseen.
