Miami football players will receive 3 dollars for every jersey sale

Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald reported on Monday that Hurricanes football players will receive $3 for the sale of every football jersey by the All Canes retail store. All Canes owner Harry Rothwell expected to receive blank jerseys by mid-August allowing fans to choose the name and number of Miami football players.

Jackson mentioned that under name, image and likeness rules, a machine will keep track of which players’ jerseys are requested and how often. Miami football players will then receive compensation from each of the All Canes outlets. NIL was instituted on July 1, 2021, allowing athletes to receive compensation.

Allowing athletes to receive compensation for their own name and jersey numbers is one of the most organic ways for them to be paid for their NIL. Miami has been one of the most active athletic programs nationally with their athletes securing NIL deals led by alum John Ruiz.

Jackson also reported that a Miami basketball official told him that with recruits knowing Ruiz will work with them on NIL deals it will help the Hurricanes compete more consistently for top 30 players. The official told Jackson “it’s a game changer.” Kansas State transfer Nijel Pack agreed to an $800,000 deal with Ruiz.

Dan Lambert who owns American Top Team martial arts gyms will pay Miami football players $500 each for the second straight year to promote his company. Jackson reported that Lambert is in discussions with other companies to raise that number to $1,000 per month. Lambert was the biggest Miami athletic benefactor before Ruiz.

Expect Miami to continue to be near the forefront of NIL deals. Miami has the advantage of being one of the most global cities in the United States. Miami was recently named the 10th best brand in college football. With Mario Cristobal as head coach, the Miami football brand should continue to be restored nationally.
