Owner shoots driver who returned to scene after crashing into parked truck in SW Miami-Dade – NBC 6 South Florida

A truck owner shot a driver who left after crashing into his parked vehicle when the driver returned to the scene in southwest Miami-Dade early Friday, officials said.

According to Miami-Dade Police, the incident started when a man crashed his car into a parked truck at the Village at Dadeland condo complex in the 7300 block of Southwest 82nd Street.

The driver left the scene but when the owner of the vehicle went to check on his truck, the driver who’d crashed into it returned, police said.

Police said the owner of the truck said he felt like the driver was going to do something to him and shot the driver.

The driver once again left but was found by police on nearby Sunset Drive. Footage from the scene showed blood on the ground near the driver’s vehicle.

The driver was taken to the hospital and was in stable condition, and the truck owner was detained on the scene.

Miami-Dade Police have not released the identities of the men involved or said if anyone will be facing charges.

Family members told NBC6 that both men involved in the incident used to be neighbors and lived next to one another for years.

Sam Hernandez said she was home with her father, Christian Hernandez, when his truck was hit outside their apartment.

“At first I heard my dad calling the cops and then a gunshot and then some commotion,” she said. “All of the sudden my heart dropped and I was like I really hope that’s not what I heard.”

Magnolia Hernandez said it was her ex-partner, Lazaro Hernandez, who was behind the wheel of the vehicle that hit the parked truck.

“I really don’t know what happened, he was drunk and he hit the car and the neighbor came out,” she said in Spanish.

She added that the two men have lived next door to each other for nine years, and said the neighbor has made disparaging comments about their family.

The investigation is ongoing.
