HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Marshall University Tennis team (5-2) took down the Miami (OH) RedHawks (3-3), 6-1, on Friday in Barboursville.
 
“I saw some good from a lot of our players against a really good Miami team,” Herd tennis head coach John Mercer said. “That bears well for the future and we’re going to have to bring that same energy and fight on Sunday against Virginia Tech.
 
The Herd made quick work of the RedHawks in doubles. MU’s number one doubles pairing of Johanna Strom and Emma Vanderheyden took their contest 6-2. Doroteja Joksovic and Aisling McGrane followed with a 6-3 win at number two doubles to clinch the doubles point.
 
Marshall’s run continued in singles with Vanderheyden and Strom taking their respective contests in straights sets on courts one and two, respectively. Then with The Herd up 3-1, McGrane battled on court five to win in two sets, both ending in tiebreaks, to seal the match for the Green and White.
 
Joksovic then took her contest in three sets after falling in the first on court three and Andjela Lopicic ended the match with a straight set victory at number six singles for the 6-1 win.
