Man, 20, accused of shooting at victims near southwest Miami-Dade park

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – A man could be spending a long time behind bars after police said he fired a gunshot at victims near a park in southwest Miami-Dade on Tuesday afternoon.

According to an arrest report from the Miami-Dade Police Department, Eugene Amede, 20, is facing one count of attempted murder with a deadly weapon.

Police said they were dispatched to Ben Shavis Legacy Park, located at 10370 SW 178th Street, in the county’s West Perrine area, after receiving a shooting call.

Upon arrival, police said they spoke with the victims, who claimed they had been involved in a fight with one of Amede’s family members at school earlier in the day.

The victims told police they were at the park just after 1 p.m. when they noticed a white Jeep circling the area.

One of the victims told detectives that a few moments later, he saw Amede exit the vehicle and point a gun at the victims which caused them to run, the report stated.

Police said Amede fired off a gunshot but didn’t make contact with any of the victims at the park.

Amede was later identified by the victims involved in the incident and taken into custody by Miami-Dade police. His vehicle was sealed and towed pending a search warrant so that police could locate the gun, detectives said.

Amede’s arrest report states that he invoked his right to counsel and refused to answer any questions without a lawyer present.

As of Wednesday, he is being held without bond at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.
