Report states Cam Ward nearing decision
Brandon Marcello of 247 Sports reported through a source that top transfer quarterback Cameron Ward is closing in on a decision. Marcello stated, “The top available transfer QB will decide between staying in college and entering the NFL Draft in the “next few days.” If Ward transfers, it appears to be between Florida State and Miami.
Ward is the eighth-ranked transfer and third QB in the 247Sports portal rankings. FSU and Miami are the only programs Ward has visited since announcing his transfer from Washington State. Per Marcello, Ward also “has received heavy interest from USC, Nebraska, Louisville, Washington and many others.”
Marcello quoted Ward as saying in his initial announcement he was “evaluating the 2024 NFL Draft as well as intending to enter my name in the transfer portal.” Ward is expected to announce where he will transfer to soon if he does not enter the NFL Draft. The NFL Mock Draft Database currently ranks Ward seventh.
In two seasons at Washington State, Ward completed 65.5 percent of his passes for 6,968 yards, 7.1 yards per attempt, 48 touchdowns and 16 interceptions. Ward completed 66.6 percent of his attempts for 3,736 yards, 7.7 yards per attempt, 25 TDs and seven interceptions during the 2023 season.
I’ve heard some optimism on Cam Ward & UM and a potential marriage between Washington State transfer QB and Miami (but to aggregators, this is NOT a report or prediction lol). But I have heard encouraging things. We’ll see. Decision announcement expected in the next several days.

Before transferring to Washington State, Ward won the Jerry Rice Award as the top FCS freshman during the 2021 spring season at Incarnate Word. Ward left Incarnate Word in San Antonio for Washington State after his head coach Eric Morris was hired by the Cougars as offensive coordinator.

Morris was hired earlier this month as the head coach at North Texas. Ward was not ranked as a high school recruit in the 2020 class out of West Columbia, Texas. Ward has become the classic example of a player who has worked hard and benefitted from moving up in the transfer portal.
