Inter Miami CF Acquires $300,000 in General Allocation Money, Selects Four Players in MLS SuperDraft 2024 presented by adidas


Inter Miami CF acquired $250,000 in 2024 General Allocation Money (GAM) and $50,000 in 2025 GAM, and selected four players in the MLS SuperDraft 2024 presented by adidas. After trading its third overall pick, the Club selected midfielder Yannick Bright from the University of New Hampshire (15th overall pick) and forward Ryan Carmichael from Hofstra University (24th overall pick) in the first round. The team then selected forward Leo Afonso from the University of Virginia (32nd overall pick) in the second round, and midfielder Pep Casas from the University of North Carolina Wilmington (61st overall pick) in the third round.

Bright, who was born in Milan, Italy, is coming off a stellar senior year in 2023. The 22-year-old midfielder played and started in all 19 games and recorded two assists for the Wildcats this past season, and subsequently earned First Team All-America, America East All-Academic Team and America East All-Conference First Team honors, was a Mac Hermann Trophy semifinalist and was named America East Midfielder of the Year, among other individual recognitions. In all, Bright made 69 appearances in his four years at the University of New Hampshire, all of them starts, registering three goals and two assists in the process.

Carmichael, meanwhile, is coming from a strong season in what was also his senior year in 2023. The 22-year-old Northern Ireland Native made 22 appearances this past season, all of them starts, and led Hofstra with 17 goals while also recording five assists. In all, the forward made 75 appearances for the university throughout his collegiate career, registering an impressive 46 goals and 18 assists in the process. Notably, Carmichael earned Second Team United Soccer Coaches All-America, First Team United Coaches All-Atlantic Region, First Team All-Coastal Athletic Association honors, among other recognitions, in 2023.

Afonso is a 22-year-old Brazilian-American forward who previously featured for the Inter Miami CF Academy from 2019 to 2020. He is coming off of a senior season in 2023 in which he notched five goals, three of them in postseason matches, and dished out two assists in just 10 appearances for the Virginia Cavaliers despite missing nine matches due to injury. In all, Afonso made 59 appearances during his collegiate career, recording 22 goals and eight assists.

Lastly, third round pick Casas was selected after his collegiate career at the University of North Carolina Wilmington. The Barcelona-born midfielder, who recently concluded his senior season, made a total of 33 appearances in his two seasons with the university’s team, recording two goals and two assists.
