Miami basketball record setting streak in rankings ends


Despite an 84-77 win over LaSalle on Saturday, the Miami basketball team fell out of the Associated Press Top 25 and the USA Today Coaches poll for the first time this season on Monday. Miami is 26th in the AP Poll and 27th in the USA Today Coaches Poll. Miami had their streak of 20 consecutive polls being ranked end.

Miami received 97 points in the AP Top 25. Mississippi is one spot ahead of Miami in the AP Top 25 as the 25th-ranked team in the country. The Rebels received 180 points in the week seven poll. North Carolina, Miami was 24th in both polls last week. The Hurricanes received 41 points in the USA Today Coaches Poll.

Auburn is one spot ahead of Miami in the USA Today Coaches Poll with 60 points. North Carolina, Clemson and Duke are the only ACC teams in the week seven rankings. UNC is 11th and 13th, Clemson 18th in both polls and Duke 21st and 19th. North Carolina dropped four spots in the AP Top 25 after losing to Kentucky on Saturday.

The Tar Heels received 371 points in the AP Top 25 and 773 in the USA Today Coaches Poll. North Carolina dropped two spots in the AP Top 25 and four in the USA Today Coaches Poll. The Tigers received 501 points in the AP Top 25. Clemson dropped five spots in the AP and seven in the Coaches Poll after losing 79-77 at Memphis.

Duke is in the same spot in the rankings as they were in week six. The Blue Devils received 311 points in the AP Top 25 and 211 in the USA Today Coaches polls. Miami is seventh among ACC teams in the NCAA Net Ratings. The Hurricanes fell two spots to 63rd in the Net Ratings after Sunday’s game. Miami is 0-2 in the critical Quad 1.

Kentucky is the only ranked team team Miami has played this season. Miami lost 93-71 at Kentucky last month. Kentucky is ninth in both polls. The Wildcats moved up five spots in the AP Top 25 and six in the USA Today Coaches Poll after its win over Kentucky. Clemson will be the next ranked team Miami plays on January 3.

Miami hosts UNC on February 10 and plays in Chapel Hill on February 26. Duke comes to the Watsco Center on February 21 in the teams only meeting this season as the only other game for Miami against a team currently ranked. No other ACC teams received votes in the week seven AP Top 25 or USA Today Coaches Poll.
