National expert comments about Cam Ward Miami football fit

Cam Ward is one of the top quarterbacks in the transfer portal after announcing his departure from Washington State. The Miami football program is listed as one of the top potential destinations for Ward. Several media outlets analyzed which programs would be good fits for Ward.

The Miami football program will likely target a transfer QB after losing Tyler Van Dyke to the portal. Redshirt freshman Jacurri Brown and freshman Emory Williams are the only scholarship QBs on the Miami roster entering the Pinstripe Bowl versus Rutgers. Williams is out with a broken arm.

Three-star QB Judd Anderson is committed to the 2024 Miami class. Ward is ranked in the top three transfer QBs by 247 Sports, On3 and Rivals. The On3 and Rivals rankings have Ward first among transfer QBs and 247 Sports have the former Washington State signal caller third overall.

The ideal for Miami in 2024 would be for Brown and Williams to receive another year of development and compete to be the starter in 2025. Brown has a decision to make following the Pinstripe Bowl. If Brown plays well versus Rutgers he could decide to transfer instead of sitting another season in Miami.

Clint Brewster 247 Sports: “Miami lost Tyler Van Dyke to the transfer portal but has two young signal-callers with some experience on the roster in Jaccuri Brown and Emory Williams…The Hurricanes and Mario Cristobal face a make-or-break season in 2024 and need a top-tier quarterback to lead them.

Cam Ward, Will Howard, Dante Moore, and Kyle McCord have been mentioned by some as possibilities for the ‘Canes.”

Matt Zenitz of 247 Sports said, “Miami’s another one that I know thinks extremely highly of Cam.”

Grant Grubbs of On3 mentioned Florida State, Miami, Ohio State, Oregon, Washington, Wisconsin and USC as programs to watch for Ward. Other outlets have reported that Ward is down to four programs. Pete Thamel said on ESPN College Gameday on Saturday to expect Ward to visit FSU, Miami and Washington.

The QB dominoes are beginning to fall. Miami will likely have to decide on a QB by Early National Signing Day on December 20. As the above-mentioned programs illustrate multiple high profile programs are looking for QBs for the 2024 season. Miami has a lot of competition for Ward and other QBs in the portal.
