Popular designers team up for $6.18m Christmas prize home
The Block judge and interior designer Darren Palmer and renowned designer Jayson Pate and have teamed up to create a luxury prize home on the Gold Coast.
The $6.18 million yourtown Christmas prize home package includes a modern Mediterranean-inspired beach house at 6 Santa Monica Road, Miami.
Built this year, the three-level four-bedroom house named ‘Orilla’ includes multiple entertaining areas as well as a lift, pool, rooftop deck and fire pit.
It is Mr Palmer’s 9th Christmas prize home he has worked on and the first new build with yourtown.
“My very first impression of this home was surprise because we’re building a home from scratch,” Mr Palmer said.
“That’s the first time we’ve done that with yourtown especially for a Christmas prize home so this is super exciting for me.”

Mr Palmer said the inspiration for the design was its location.
“Miami Beach is right there, the ocean is right there so this is the perfect Queensland beachside coastal modern Mediterranean home,” he said.
“I really wanted to make sure that this interior and all of the furniture and all of the inclusions
are just as cool as the outdoor of the house looks.
“It’s definitely coastal, it’s absolutely appropriate for being right beside the beach, but it’s also really fun, really liveable – it is a human scale but there is so much house and so much value for someone to win.”
He said he had two favourite spots in the house.
“They are both living spaces and their adjoining terraces,” Mr Palmer said.
“So upstairs and its terrace, middle floor and its terrace – they’re both fabulous and take in the ocean, they both have this really luxe, gorgeous, colourful appeal and I’m really proud of them.”
Mr Pate, who is behind popular Gold Coast house designs including Dahlia in Tallebudgera Valley, Carmel Springs in Mermaid Waters and Ruin X in Burleigh Waters, said the inspiration for the floor plan came from the site’s location, orientation and aspect.
“Taking full advantage of the ocean views made it ‘a must’ to have the living spaces elevated and at the front of the home,” Mr Pate said.
“This also led to the decision to raise the pool height from the regular ‘in ground’ theory to a
more functional and accessible location.
“It also made sense to have this in the front of the home taking full advantage of the amazing, all day northern sun.
‘Mr Pate said the second floor was designed to be the ultimate entertaining experience.
“The roof top deck not only has views of the ocean, but incredible views all the way up the coastline to Surfers Paradise,” he said.
“The exterior inspiration pays homage to its beachside location.
“It is contemporary and coastal, using soft curves, natural materials, and a neutral colour palette to fit with the sites surrounds.”
Tracy Adams, yourtown CEO described the property as the ultimate Australian home.
“It has it all — great family spaces, steps to the beach and fantastic interior,” she said.
“Buying a ticket is not only a great chance to win, but it also means that those dealing with life challenges can get the support they need when they need it, and not just at Christmas.
“Our Christmas prize home is our biggest of the year, and really sets us up to continue the work we do through Kids Helpline and our other services through the coming year as well.”
Tickets for Christmas Draw 532 are $15. It will be drawn on December 22.
