Former Norwegian Cruise Line CEO Frank Del Rio Asks $15.9 Million for Florida Home

Former Norwegian Cruise Line CEO Frank Del Rio is listing his Florida vacation home for $15.9 million, he said, because now that he’s retired, he’ll be too busy cruising to spend time there.

“When you run a cruise line you hardly ever have a chance to go on a cruise,” said Del Rio, who retired in June. First up? A 20-day cruise to Antarctica on the Oceania Marina. “It’s the first ship we ever built from scratch, so it has a special place in my heart.”

The seven-bedroom, oceanfront home is located in Vero Beach, about 75 miles north of Palm Beach, said listing agent Cindy O’Dare of ONE Sotheby’s International Realty, who has the listing with colleague Richard Boga. Del Rio said he and his wife, Marcia Del Rio, live primarily in Miami and bought the Vero Beach house as a weekend getaway for $2.46 million in 2015, shortly after he became Norwegian’s CEO.

Built in 1997, the contemporary home sits on roughly 0.6 acres with about 90 feet of oceanfront, said Boga. After buying the property, the Del Rios gave the house a roughly $3.5 million gut renovation, adding a saltwater pool, a summer kitchen, a cabana and a walkway to the beach. They spent about $2.5 million on furnishings, which are included in the listing price. Frank Del Rio said he became an avid art collector after selecting the artwork for his cruise ships, so the house also contains about $1 million worth of art, most of which is available for sale at an additional price.

The approximately 6,000-square-foot house has a lighted quartz bar, a dual-sided fireplace and two offices, although Frank Del Rio said he liked to work on the beach, which has Wi-Fi, he said.

He said the home’s aesthetic bears similarities to Norwegian Cruise Line ships. “You walk into this house, and you might think you’ve walked into one of my cruise ships,” he said. “That experience that I gained over 30 years in the cruise business…was certainly adopted in designing this house.”

Frank Del Rio founded Oceania Cruises in the early 2000s. Norwegian Cruise Lines bought the company along with Regent Seven Seas Cruises for about $3 billion in 2014.

The Del Rios also have homes in Miami, Colorado and New York, he said. Now that he is retired, Frank Del Rio said, they also plan to spend more time with their two children and five grandchildren, leaving them with less time to visit Vero Beach.

The most expensive home sale in Vero Beach was a $27 million deal in 2021, said O’Dare, though the priciest home on the market there is asking $60 million.
