Orange Lose at Miami – Syracuse University Athletics


MIAMI, Fla. – Syracuse lost at Miami on Friday night, 3-0. Syracuese (2-17, 0-9 ACC) kept the first set close until the midway point until the Hurricanes (12-6, 5-3) closed out the set with an 8-2 run to win, 25-13. The Orange kept up with the Hurricanes to begin the second set, tying the frame early at 6-6 after a block by junior Laila Smith and Harris-Waddy. Miami responded with a nine-point run to take a 15-6 lead. After some back-and-forth play, the Hurricanes closed out the second frame with a win, 25-15.
 
In the third set, Miami scored the first four points of the frame. The Orange battled back to cut the Hurricane lead to two, 6-4, after an ace from freshman Mira Ledermueller. Miami won the set , 25-15.
 
Of Note:

  • Freshman Veronica Sierzant hit a team-high .429 percent, accumulating seven kills on 14 attacks. She also contributed 14 assists, which led the Orange.
  • ‘Cuse had five service aces in the match, including two from Ledermueller.
  • Smith was a key contributor for the Orange, collecting four kills and two block assists.

The Orange will continue their road swing in Florida on Sunday, Oct. 22 at noon against Florida State. The match will have live stats available and can be streamed live on ACC Network Extra.
