Marlins-Mets suspended game will not be played

Thursday’s game between the Marlins and Mets, which was suspended due to rain with Miami leading 2-1 in the top of the ninth inning at Citi Field, will not be completed, MLB announced Sunday.

The game had been scheduled to resume Monday at 1:10 p.m. ET. Instead, because the result no longer has any postseason implications, the Marlins will move forward with their preparations for the National League Wild Card Series. Even if the Mets were to come back in the bottom of the ninth and defeat the Marlins, Miami would finish the season with the same record as Arizona, and the Marlins hold the tiebreaker over the No. 6 seed D-backs.

The Marlins secured the No. 5 seed in the postseason on Sunday and will face the Phillies in a best-of-three series beginning Tuesday at Citizens Bank Park.

The Mets, who lost, 9-1, to the Phillies on Sunday, finish the year in fourth place in the NL East. They will be on the hunt for a new manager as Buck Showalter will not return to the club in 2024.
