Offense setting milestones through 1st 4 games

The Miami football team has started the season scoring at least 38 points in the first four games for the first time since 2002 and gaining over 450 yards in each game during the first third of the season for the first time this century. Shannon Dawson has made a major impact on a Miami team that struggled offensively in 2022.

The Miami football team was 11th nationally averaging 44.7 points per game, 15th averaging 511.0 total yards per game, 38th averaging 189.00 rushing yards per game and 13th averaging 322.0 passing yards per game through the first three weeks of the 2023 season. Miami is now averaging 43.75 PPG after Saturday.

The Hurricanes rushing average ballooned to 222.5 per game. After the win over Temple, Miami is averaging 519 total yards and 296.5 passing yards per game. Henry Parrish set a career-high with 139 yards rushing on 16 carries with two touchdowns before leaving the game with an injury. Parrish now has 331 rushing yards in 2023.

Under Dawson, Miami has truly performed as a team with multiple players starring through the first four weeks of the season. Don Chaney Jr. ran nine times for 61 yards versus Temple, Mark Fletcher 11 for 51, Chris Johnson four for 23 and even Tyler Van Dyke ran twice for 39 yards.

Xavier Restrepo continues to be Van Dyke’s favorite receiver. Restrepo had seven receptions for 41 yards and his first two TDs on Saturday. Jacolby George led Miami with 90 receiving yards on five receptions. George had a long reception of 47 yards. Colbie Young added two receptions for 33 yards and a TD.

Fletcher and Young had TDs called back on a fourth-quarter TD drive that eventually culminated with Jose Borregales’ field goal. Restrepo entered the week tied for 35th nationally averaging 5.7 receptions per game. After Saturday, Restrepo is now averaging six receptions per game. That would put Restrepo sixth nationally in RPG.

After his performance on Saturday, Parrish improved to 82.75 rushing yards per game. Miami will host Georgia Tech on October 7 after the bye week. Georgia Tech was 117th nationally allowing 33.3 points per game entering this weekend. The Yellow Jackets are 118th allowing 438.3 total yards per game.
