Govan’s Overtime Winner Lifts Field Hockey Over Miami

OXFORD, Ohio – Imogen Govan scored her second overtime winner of the season to finish the comeback as the Brown Bears (4-1, 0-0 Ivy League) took a 2-1 win over the Miami RedHawks (5-3, 1-0 MAC) on Sunday.

“Today’s win was a true team effort from all 27 of us,” said head coach Britt Broady. “Each student-athlete and staff member gave all of themselves to whatever need the team had.

“I’m proud of our athletic maturity in withstanding a well-coached, highly skilled and aggressive Miami squad. Despite sways in momentum throughout the game, our team stayed resilient, hungry and determined. The hard work and grit paid off in the end, which what any coach and competitor hopes to see.”

Claudia Negrete-Garcia gave the RedHawks the lead halfway through the third quarter with a penalty stroke goal.

The Bears had four penalty corners late in the third with a chance to tie the game but were unable to get a shot through on Perese.

Lexi Pellegrino found the equalizer on Brown’s 13th penalty corner of the game five minutes into the fourth quarter. The sophomore beat Perese with a quick shot from the top of the circle that deflected in.
