ORANGE START WITH A “FLUREY”
Flurey helped Syracuse to a strong with three shot attempts in the first 13 minutes of play. She had a point-blank attempt from the left side of the goal at 5:20, followed with a header off a corner at 10:30, and let a drive go toward the Miami net at 12:45.
MIAMI BENEFITS
The host Hurricanes opened the scoring late in the first half. Miami’s Gianna Angelillo attacked the Syracuse end line and her crossing attempt deflected off an Orange defender into the net. The tally, classified as an “own goal,” came at 43:11.
HURRICANES ADD ON
Miami tacked on another score just over eight minutes into the second half. Gianna Angelillo’s left-footed drive found the upper left portion of the net to extend the host’s lead to 2-0. Tusca Mahmoudpour and Adrianna Serna earned assists.
NOTABLE NOTES:
- Syracuse outshot Miami, 13-7.
- Flurey finished with nine shot attempts, the most by a Syracuse player since Meghan Root had eight shots in a 2021 contest with Niagara.
- The game was delayed closed to an hour in the second half because of lightning in the area.
- Junior Kylen Grant saved a possible Miami goal at 5:20 when she cleared a Hurricane attempt away from the goal.
- Syracuse’s freshman Caro Monterrey, a Miami native, had the opportunity to play in front of her family.
- The Hurricane victory ended Syracuse’s two-game victory streak against Miami.
- Miami cut into Syracuse’s all-time series advantage. The Orange own an 8-6-1 lead.
