MLS Season Pass’ Kaylyn Kyle suspended over Bruce Arena remarks

MLS Season Pass broadcaster Kaylyn Kyle was suspended in August over remarks about now-former New England Revolution head coach and general manager, Bruce Arena.

Sources told The Athletic that Kyle earned a 30-day ban after she claimed Arena’s league-mandated leave from the Revolution was due to a “pending investigation for a racial slur that he used against someone in the club” on Sirius XM’s “The Football Show” on Aug. 8.

The following day, Kyle released a statement apologizing for her “improper and inaccurate remarks.”

“The league’s investigation — of which I have no knowledge or first-hand information — relates to allegations that the coach made insensitive remarks,” she wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter. “I had no basis to say what I said on the show. I understand that words have impact and I apologize for my actions. I spoke carelessly and should have been more mindful of my words.”

Kyle, a bronze medalist for Canada women’s national soccer team, has been the sideline reporter for Inter Miami CF since 2020 and joined the Apple TV MLS Season Pass broadcasting team for the 2023 season.

She could return to her on-air role as soon as this weekend.

The specifics of the Arena investigation have yet to be made public.

Arena resigned from his posts with the Revolution on Aug. 9, but did not divulge any specific wrongdoing.

“I know that I have made some mistakes and moving forward, I plan to spend some time reflecting on this situation and taking corrective steps to address what has transpired,” the former USMNT coach said in a statement. “And while this has not been an easy decision, I am confident that it is in the best interest of both the New England Revolution organization and my family that we part ways at this time.”
