Since Messi’s arrival at Inter Miami, MLS stadiums have witnessed a new phenomenon: a bodyguard who seems to be with the Argentine superstar at every turn. Initially, there was much speculation about the identity of this figure, but the mystery has now been unravelled.

A new figure at MLS stadiums

Ever since Messi joined Inter Miami, a previously unidentified bodyguard has been a constant presence by his side. Hired by David Beckham to ensure Messi’s safety during matches, this bodyguard is seen closely monitoring Messi’s every move, except, of course, when he’s on the pitch. Clips showcasing the bodyguard’s dedication to protecting the star have quickly gone viral on social media.

Messi’s security highlights the club’s commitment to his safety. While MLS has seen big names like Zlatan Ibrahimović, Steven Gerrard, and Frank Lampard in the past, none have caused as much stir as Messi’s move to Miami. MLS stadiums and clubs are still adjusting their standards and procedures in light of this. It’s worth noting that there have been past incidents of fans invading the pitch and attacking players, like the assault on Jack Grealish by a Birmingham fan in March 2019.

Mystery unravelled

Jorge Mas, Inter Miami’s director, has spoken about the need to ramp up security measures. His comments highlight the gravity of the situation. Mas also referenced Messi’s previous visits to Miami with the Argentine national team, pointing to the club’s experience in ensuring the safety of soccer stars. With the arrival of players like Messi, Busquets, and Alba, Inter Miami is in the spotlight like never before. Mas emphasized that all security protocols are in place both here and for away games. The club is well aware of the “Messi mania” that can erupt in any stadium and is prepared for it.

As for the identity of the enigmatic bodyguard, it’s now known that he is Yassine Chueko, a former US soldier who served in Iraq and Afghanistan. Chueko is not your average bodyguard. He has a background in mixed martial arts (MMA), as well as other combat disciplines like taekwondo and boxing, making him an ideal choice to protect a global superstar like Messi.
