Lionel Messi has made a blistering start to life at Inter Miami since heading to the MLS this summer – and his country believe the United States now has an alien in its presence.

Messi, who made the move to Miami after calling time on his spell in France with Paris Saint-Germain, is already the joint-fourth highest scorer in Inter’s history after firing home seven goals in his first four games for the club.

On his debut last month, the Argentina captain curled in a 94th-minute free-kick winner to snatch a 2-1 Leagues Cup victory over Cruz Azul, and he converted a similar late effort to salvage extra-time in their penalty shootout win against FC Dallas in the round of 16.

Quite simply, Messi has hit the ground running to breathe new life into a franchise that had previously struggled for form and results throughout the season.

And Argentina’s FA has released an emotional video heaping praise on their star player amid his incredible MLS start, joking that ‘you can see aliens’ in the United States while showing some of Messi’s highlights in Miami so far.

The Argentina FA has released an emotional video online referring to Messi as an ‘alien’

‘They say that in the United States you can see aliens,’ the video, shared by president of the Argentine Football Association Claudio Tapia, begins. ‘Indeed, the first time they saw him turning around a free-kick in the 93rd minute.

‘And some saw him again a few hours ago, getting into the quarter-finals. With a shot from another galaxy, it’s a supernatural phenomenon.’

The clip, which initially merges some of Messi’s best goals and his hero’s welcome in Miami along with discussions about the sighting of aliens, concludes with the new Inter superstar playing for Argentina and lifting the World Cup last year.

It then adds: ‘In the United States they do not stop selling alien t-shirts. I don’t know, it’s like they’ve never seen one. Could it be that we are used to aliens?

‘It must be that our country is from another planet.’

Messi mania has well and truly hit the States this summer, with the Barcelona legend getting off to a flyer with Miami.

Fans are convinced that Messi is already looking the happiest he has in years with the club, a far cry from the tumultuous end to his stint with PSG.

One posted a picture of Messi beaming from ear to ear in the aftermath of Sunday’s Leagues Cup victory over FC Dallas and wrote: ‘This is the smile that psg couldn’t give Messi…’

Another shared a clip of him celebrating the penalty-shootout victory over Dallas with his Miami teammates and said: ‘Messi was never happy like this at PSG’.

A third commented: ‘I said it before and I’ll say it again. Lionel Messi looks happy out there and it’s good to see him smiling. It wasn’t always the case in Paris but it is now. He genuinely looks happy to be playing with Inter Miami. You see it on the pitch.’

One fan posted a split picture of a disgruntled Messi at PSG compared with one of him smiling in the States and wrote: ‘This is America and #Messi will be happy.’

While another went one step further by insisting: ‘Don’t think I’ve ever seen Messi look so happy ever playing football. Great to see’.
