Miami football gets commitment from versatile 4-star DL Artavius Jones

The 2024 Miami football class rose to 14th nationally after receiving a commitment from four-star defensive lineman Artavius Jones on Friday. Jones is the second blue-chip prospect in 24 hours for Miami after receiving a commitment from five-star wide receiver Joshisa Trader on Thursday. Jones is the fifth-highest Miami commit.

Jones is the 165th-ranked prospect, 20th DL and 25th recruit in Florida out of Blountstown. Miami gains a versatile prospect with Jones playing fullback, tight end, and offensive line during his high school career according to Gaby Urrutia of Inside the U. Jones produced on offense and defensive in 2022.

Jones had 58 tackles, 14 tackles for loss and 3.5 sacks, one interception, one pass defended, two fumble recoveries that he returned for 72 yards and one forced fumble. On offense, Jones had two carries for four yards in 2022 and 10 receptions for 210 yards and three TDs over the last two seasons.

Jones also averaged 10.6 points per game and 8.6 rebounds playing for the Blountstown basketball team. According to Urrutia, Jones also threw the discus, javelin, and shot put in track and field. Miami is gaining an excellent athlete on the interior of the OL at 6’2 and 280 pounds.

Jones is the third DL committed to Miami in the 2024 Class. Miami received a commitment from four-star DL Marquise Lightfoot last week. Three-star DL Daylen Russell was previously committed to Miami. Tight ends coach Cody Woodiel is listed as the primary recruiter for Jones with DL coach Joe Salave’a as secondary.

Miami primarily beat out Central Florida for the commitment from Jones per his On3 profile. Jones only took official visits to Miami and UCF. Florida Atlantic, Florida State and Tennessee received unofficial visits from Jones in addition to his official trips to Miami and UCF. Expect Miami to add more DL to its 2024 class.

Four-star Miami Central DL T.A. Cunningham who is trending to Miami per On3 will announce his college destination on July 22. Miami signed four DL in their 2023 class and three more through the transfer portal. Numbers similar to that are likely additions to the 2024 Miami football roster.
