Miami man arrested in connection with 2021 fatal shooting of 14-year-old boy

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – Miami-Dade police arrested a man Monday in connection with the 2021 fatal shooting of a 14-year-old boy in southwest Miami-Dade, authorities said in a news release Tuesday.

Detectives said William Garrido Corbea, 19, of Miami, is accused of killing Angelo Antonio Guzman, who was fatally shot around 7 p.m. on Sept. 19, 2021 at Sandpiper Park, located in the 15800 block of Southwest 106th Street.

According to investigators, Guzman was attending a family gathering when he told relatives he was meeting some friends and stepped away from their pavilion.

Shortly after, Guzman’s relatives heard gunshots and discovered him unresponsive. Miami-Dade Fire Rescue personnel responded to the park and pronounced Guzman dead at the scene.

“Angelo was visiting his father. At some point, he made it to the park where the incident occurred,” Miami-Dade Police Detective Edhy Mederos told Local 10 News on Sept. 20, 2021. “There were families in the area that heard the gunshots and responded to that area.”

Mederos said Guzman was someone who was going to remembered by everyone who knew him.

“Angelo was just starting his life. His family is going to miss him. His friends are going to miss him. His classmates are going to miss him,” he said.

According to jail records, Garrido Corbea is facing one count each of second-degree murder and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.

He was transported to the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, where he was held without bond.

A motive for the shooting remains unclear.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477.
