Tipp City Firefighters were dispatched around 2 p.m. to Martindale Road, north of Dayton International Airport, on initial reports of heavy smoke in the area called in by Vandalia Police, the Tipp-Monroe Fire Association posted on social media.

A neighbor told News Center 7 at the scene the wind pushed flames into a shooting range.

When firefighters arrived, they found the brush fire had spread to a nearby stack of tires used in combination with dirt as a backstop for a small shooting range, according to the Tipp-Monroe Fire Association Facebook page.

They did get the brush fire under control.

Firefighters said it serves as a reminder to never leave fires unattended especially during dry days as fires can spread quickly to unintended fuel sources and grow rapidly.

Mutual aid was provided by fire departments from the City of Vandalia, Bethel Township, West Milton, and Troy.

No word yet on any damage.
