Baseball Drops Opening Game of NCAA Regional at #9 Miami, 9-1


Coral Gables, FL – The University of Maine began their NCAA Regional action with a loss against #9 host, Miami on Friday night, 9-1.

First Inning: Miami got on the board early with a two-run home run by Edgardo Villegas.

Second Inning: Miami put up a five-spot on the scoreboard in the fifth inning as CJ Kayfus (RBI-Double), Edgardo Villegas (RBI-Single) and Yohandy Morales (Three-run home run) delivered the runs for the Hurricanes.

Noah Lewis came on in relief of Colin Fitzgerald in the second inning. Fitzgerald allowed 7 runs on 7 hits and 2 walks across 1 and 1/3 innings of work.

Fourth Inning: Quinn McDaniel scored the lone run of the night for the Black Bears as he scored on a throwing error by the Miami catcher after hitting a double to left field.

Seventh Inning: Zach Levenson hit a two-run home run to cap off the night of scoring for Miami.

Eighth Inning: Justin Baeyens was called on to pitch the eighth inning for Maine. Noah Lewis was solid in his outing against Miami as he allowed 2 runs on 4 hits, 2 walks and 4 strikeouts across 5 and 2/3 innings of relief.

Baeyens fired off a scoreless eighth inning, allowing no runs on no hits.

Gage Ziehl (8-4) picked up the win for Miami.

Colin Fitzgerald (6-2) took the loss for Maine.

Maine (32-20) will look to keep their NCAA run alive on Saturday as they will face off against Louisiana at noon in the first elimation game of the Regional.
