How to Watch Nashville SC vs. Columbus Crew – MLS (5/28/23)

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – It has been a rather triumphant return to Major League Soccer’s Eastern Conference for Nashville SC, and they look to keep their status near the top of the standings when they host the Columbus Crew on Sunday.

After spending a year in the Western Conference due to realignment, Nashville is back and one of the best in the East. While the team lost in their Round of 16 matchup in the U.S. Open Cup to Inter Miami on Wednesday, Nashville is nipping on the heels of FC Cincinnati for the top spot in the conference, going in unbeaten in their last six league matches, going 4-0-2 over that span. Nashville has only lost once at home all season, that coming back on March 25, when they fell to Cincy. Nashville comes into Sunday five points back of first place. They have one of the top scorers in the early months of the season, as Hany Mukhtar is currently tied for second in the MLS in goals with eight.

A little further down the standings sits the Columbus Crew. While they are still in a playoff spot coming into this weekend’s action, it has been a rough week for the Crew. After losing to Cincinnati, 3-2, last Saturday, Columbus ended up losing to USL Championship squad Pittsburgh Riverhounds in the Round of 16 in the U.S. Open Cup on Thursday. They have won just one of their last six league matches, that come back on May 17 over the worst team in the Western Conference, the Los Angeles Galaxy. The Crew sits tied for eighth in the conference with Charlotte, both two points ahead of New York City FC and New York Red Bulls.

The two clubs have met just five times since Nashville came into the league in 2020, with the Crew holding a slight 2-1-2 edge coming into Sunday.
