DAYTON — The body of a boy who was recovered from a river in Dayton has still not been identified.
Saturday around 5:40 p.m. Dayton police and fire got a call from someone claiming they saw a body in the Great Miami River near West Riverview Avenue, according to a media release.
News Center 7 received the 911 call made to dispatchers.

“It looks like a body to me,” the caller tells dispatchers.
“Ok, does it look like a child or an adult?” the dispatcher asks.
“It looks like a child,” the caller said.
Crews arrived on the scene within three minutes, according to Deputy Chief Mike Rice with Dayton Fire Department.
Rice said the body got caught in a circular flow in the river which prevented it from going downstream.
Dayton fire crews were on scene for an hour and a half Saturday. Police said they believe the boy to be between 6 and 9 years old.
Rice said something like this is never easy for emergency crews to respond to.

“Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of the body that was pulled from the river but it certainly takes a deep toll on our crews,” Rice said. “People consistently go out and they just tirelessly look for any victim that’s lost and over the last two weeks we’ve done a lot of that.”
Rice wanted to remind the public to wear a life vest if they plan to be in the water.
