BOSTON – The Boston University women’s basketball program takes part in its first road game in the 2022-23 season on Sunday (Nov. 13), visiting the Miami Hurricanes in Coral Gables, Fla. Opening tip is set for 1 p.m.

 

BU seeks its first win of the season, as well as the first against an ACC opponent since the Terriers took down local rival Boston College on Nov. 17, 2021. The Terriers have won two of their last three road openers.

 

Miami aims to start the campaign on a three-game winning streak. Sunday’s contest is the third of four consecutive home games for the Hurricanes.

TERRIER TIDBITS

  • BU is coming off a 66-65 loss to Northeastern in the season lidlifter at Case Gym on Nov. 7.
  • Neither side led for more than seven points, which only occurred in the opening minutes in the first quarter.
  • Sophomore Alex Giannaros poured in a team-high 23 points, the most by a Terrier in a season opener since Danielle Callahan dropped 27 points against the Huskies on Nov. 8, 2013.
  • The Brockton, Mass. native also set career-highs with nine made free throws and six rebounds.
  • Junior Caitlin Weimar posted her ninth double-double as a Terrier with 14 points and 11 rebounds.
  • She also added three blocks, two assists, and two steals, marking the 15th time in her career she registered a point, board, assist, blocs, and steal in one game and second with two each.
  • Senior Maggie Pina made four three-pointers in the season opener in a 14-point effort.
  • She now stands five triples away from tying Alison Argentieri ’03 for 10th place in the Terrier annals.
  • Dating back to the start of last season, BU has outrebounded their opponent in 25 of 32 games.

 
SCOUTING MIAMI

  • Miami has won its first two games of the year against Maryland Eastern Shore and Stetson, with an average margin of victory of 28 points.
  • Ja’Leah Williams is Miami’s leading scorer through the first two games, averaging 14 points on 57.9 percent shooting.
  • Haley Cavinder (13.5 PPG) and Destiny Harden (12.5 PPG) also average double figures.
  • The Hurricanes were picked to finish sixth in the ACC in the conference’s Blue Ribbon Panel.
  • Cavinder was named to the panel’s Newcomer Watch List.
  • Last season, Miami went 21-13, reaching the ACC Championship game and receiving an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament, where it advanced to the Second Round.

 
SERIES HISTORY

  • BU and Miami are meeting for the first time in program history on Sunday.
  • The Terriers went 1-1 against ACC foes last season, defeating Boston College but falling to No. 17/21 Georgia Tech.
  • The Terriers will also face two ACC opponents this year, visiting the Hurricanes and the Eagles.
